50 million dollar affordable housing initiative announced by the province

Aboriginal individuals and families who have a low or moderate income will benefit from a 50 million dollar affordable rental housing program.

A call for an expression of interest has gone out with a session planned in Prince George on June 17th from 9 am to 12 pm at Coast Inn of the North.

Anyone unable to attend can take part in a webinar on July 11th from 9:30 – 11:30 am.

MYPRINCEGEORGENOW caught up with Housing Minister Rich Coleman who provided the following statement on the announcement.

“The province recognizes the need to create more affordable households living off reserves in communities across BC. We also recognize aboriginal peoples are more likely to be in a core housing need and are significantly over-represented within the homeless population. This investment will increase affordable rental housing stock, providing greater opportunities for aboriginal people to find safe, and stable housing.”
