Mackie Basil still missing three years later

It’s been three years to the day that Immaculate (Mackie) Basil went missing near Fort St James.

RCMP Corporal Dave Tyreman says Mackie was last seen on the Leo Tanizul Forest Service Road with two others, dealing with a truck stuck in the mud.

“While they are there, Mackie gets frustrated with this and I’m pretty sure in her mind she wants to get back home, her son and family is there so she just kind of leaves these two behind and away she goes, but that’s the last time she was ever seen.”

She indicated she was walking back to Tachie, and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a red maple leaf, grey capri pants and white running shoes.

Tyreman says they are not ruling anything out.

“We would be remissed if we didn’t think about foul play, so that’s been considered. Was she attacked by a wild animal? Was it a part of the terrain, did she step off a cliff?”

Despite the lack of leads, Tyreman says their investigators are quite certain Mackie would never leave town on her own.

“We know she’s got ties, especially to her son but her whole family. So it would be totally out of character for her to do something like that.”

Extensive ground and air efforts with the assistance of many Search and Rescue organizations, RCMP Air Services, and local searchers, scoured the area for four days without locating any trace of Mackie. Over the past three years, local First Nation Tlaz’ten Band members and SAR have continued searching the area surrounding where Mackie was last seen without locating her, or any trace she had ever been there.

Anyone who has information regarding the disappearance of Immaculate Basil that has not previously been reported to police is urged to contact the Fort St James RCMP at 250-996-8269, or call Crimstoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (tips)
