International BioEnergy Conference kicks off today

Delegates from across the world are in Prince George today for the 7th bi-annual International BioEnergy Conference & Exhibition.

The event is centered around things like climate change, safety workshops, and BC’s fibre situation.

Event Manager Cam McAlpine hopes says bringing these many professionals together will promote great ideas and international business.

“We’ve learned a lot over the years from Europe in terms of technology and equipment around the conversation of biomass into energy,” he says, “Asia, same sort of thing, although a lot of the discussions with Asia is around sourcing fibre for their energy needs.”

He believes what is shared now could affect BC tomorrow.

“We want to bring ideas and business opportunities to North-Central BC. We believe, over the years, the conference has contributed to building the economy and creating jobs in North-Central BC.”

There is a wood pellet safety workshop all day today before the conference proper begins tonight and UNBC. The conference wraps up on Friday.

After two days of competition, the 2025 Special Olympics BC Summer Games have come to a close.  The games brought around 900 athletes to the Prince George area to compete in ten different sports on Friday and Saturday.  "With any large, large tournament like this, you're always running with your hair straight back just to get everything ready, and we certainly managed to put everything together," said Co-Chair of the Organizing Committee Lyn Hall.
