42nd annual “Celebrate Canada” Festival in Lheildi T’enneh Memorial Park tomorrow

Thousands of people are expected to fill Lheildi T’enneh Memorial Park tomorrow to celebrate Canada Day.

This is the 42nd year the Multicultural Heritage Society of Prince George is hosting the free “Celebrate Canada” Festival. Executive Director and Festival Supervisor Marlies Greulich says the annual tradition brings people back to the park, year after year.

“(There’s) entertainment from around the world, food from around the world. How often do you have that opportunity? When you ask people on the street ‘Where are you going to spend Canada Day?’ mostly it’s in the park and that statement speaks for itself,” she says.

There will be tons going on starting at 11 AM with the PG Community Band. Local MPs and MLAs will hold opening ceremonies around noon followed with a giant cake cutting. Musical, dance and drama groups take the stage all day and the craft fair and kids stations will be held around the park.

Of course, Greulich believes no Canada Day would be complete unless there were fireworks.

“We always say without the fireworks it’d be like having a birthday cake without candles so that gives it the picture that
we like to portray.”

The fireworks start 11 PM from Connaught Hill, which Greulich says will be visible all over the city.

Select bus lines to the event will cost one dollar or one non-perishable food item.

Dogs aren’t allowed at the event. Greulich says your pet is better off at home than in a hot car.
