Prince George Pride kicks off Friday

Expect to see a lot of rainbows downtown during this weekend’s Prince George Pride events.

It starts Friday night with a drag show, then a parade, festival, and dance on Saturday. The weekend wraps up with brunch on Sunday morning.

With so much going on, Pride Society President Stacey Hewlett shares what she’s most looking forward to.

“I’m a big fan of the pride parade, it just really shows the inclusivity and the diversity of this community,” she says, “It really gets people out and rain or shine we’ll be walking. And it’s a family fun event, so everyone gets to come.”

The event started in 1997 to battle local homophobia. Hewlett says Prince George becomes more and more supportive every year, which is evident over the past six months.

“We’ve seen two crosswalks in town that have been painted with the rainbow colours. We have proclaimed this as pride week, we have huge support from City council and from local dignitaries. It’s come a long way.”

The downtown parade and festival are free and open to everyone.

You can still buy your tickets for the 19+ events.
