41,473 new housing starts broke ground last month in BC’s urban areas.
Prince George only saw 14 single detached units in June with no multi-units being constructed.
Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation Market analyst, Taylor Pardy says despite the down month, the city is still ahead of their figures from this time last year.
“In the first six months of the year, housing starts are up 23% in Prince George. We saw 181 new housing starts during the first half of 2016 compared to 147 last year.”
Pardy adds cities of similar size also experienced a downturn in home starts. “Kamloops starts were also down they only had 31 for the month of June compared to 39, Vernon they had 31 from 38 and Kelowna saw a drop with just 117 compared to 151.”
116 multi-units have broke ground in Prince George so far in 2016 along with 65 single detached units.
