A new airline carrier could be providing flights to and from Prince George by next spring.
Canada Jetlines is looking to get approval from the country’s transportation agency and Minister of Transport.
Airline CO, Jim Scott believes they can attract new passengers who were being lost to the United States.
“Right now there are 10 million passenger trips not being flown in Canada and some of those flights are going to the United States using ultra low-cost carriers but we feel there is a market for 10 million passenger trips per year.”
Westjet cancelled their direct flight to Calgary earlier this year and Scott says the number one priority is to cater to the major centres.
“Prince George has a lot of flying because of its location and most of that needs to go to major cities and that’s what we are focusing on.”
If approved, Canada Jetlines would begin with a fleet of six 737 aircraft.
Canada Jetlines would be a discount airline service similar to New Leaf who began air service on Tuesday.
