Search and Rescue teams scouring lake near Vanderhoof for missing man

Vanderhoof and Terrace Search and Rescue are looking for a man who is believed to have drowned in a lake near Vanderhoof on Saturday.

Two people were fishing on Arthur Lake, about 45 minutes south of Vanderhoof, when their boat capsized.

One person made it to shore and flagged down a motorist but the other has not been seen since the incident.

Search and Rescue teams are combing the shores and searching the lake using sonar.

As the search and investigation is ongoing, no names have been released.

** a previous version of the story indicated the incident took place Sunday. The initial RCMP release was incorrect, it actually happened Saturday.

Investigation hurdles related to PG incident draws ire from National Police Federation

The incident in question occurred at about 7:00 a.m. on May 31, 2021, when local police approached a man near the North Star Inn near Victoria Street and 15th Avenue. The Independent Investigations Office said during the interaction, shots were fired by police, with the man sustaining a serious gunshot injury.
