Hot Day at Otway heats up the weekend

It was indeed a Hot Day at Otway today!

Throwdown Adventure Festival put on the biking event for the second time this year.

The first day was for advanced riders featuring mens, womens and expert events.

“We’ve got the advanced and expert level XC,” says Andrew Steele, Mountain Bike Director with Throwdown Adventure Festival. “More technical, longer harder ride. It’s a 12.3 km course, just about 300 m of climbing and it goes through the more technical trails.”

Things will simmer down a little bit for tomorrow.

“On tap, we’ve got the novice XC which is more of a gentler corss country race. It’ll go on some of the easier trails, fewer technical challenges, less climbing, less distance. So it’s for your more entry level riders and less seasoned folk.”

They’ve also added a learn to ride clinic for younger bike enthusiasts.

“We’re really excited about that. It’s something we didn’t have last year – it was bit of a gap for us. So the Prince George Cycle Club Learn to Ride guys will be out here teaching a clinic for the kids from 10-11 and then from 11-12 they’ll get their very own race on some of the easy, flat, level trails.”

Steele says local bike shops have been huge supporters of the event. Koops Bike Shop, Cycle Logic and Ruckus are all on site.

The Prince George RCMP will also be on site registering bikes with the new 529 Garage app.
