Night market planned for downtown Prince George Saturday

A night market is planned for downtown Prince George this Saturday.

The Black Donkey Cafe will be hosting more than 20 vendors in their parking lot from 7pm to midnight.

“We have such a huge awesome network of people that are wanting to be a part of something but just need direction, so we are trying to offer our community some direction towards getting out and doing what they love and showing a populace that there is a lot of really creative crafty people in town.” said Black Donkey owner Chris Blackier

He adds that this is a part of a series of events he’s put on this summer to drive traffic to the downtown core and make the best of the foot traffic created by the Pokemon Go craze (previous story)

“We are trying to increase the positive influx of the demographic downtown, so we’ve been doing outdoor music shows, lots of live entertainment, DJ’s, dance parties…”

Blackier says the loss of the Wilson Square Market from downtown Prince George was devastating to many businesses, and the night market is a shot at replacing that.

“The main objective for this is to really start doing this monthly, and starting next year I plan on having the rights to take over the Wilson Square Market space at the Courthouse Plaza and starting our own kind of night market there.”

But with the market hours running 7pm to midnight, Blackier is aiming to attract a bit different crowd than a typical farmers market,

“People that are going to be coming are are going to be like unique arts and crafts, we are trying to really corner the market on nerds and geeky stuff that you don’t generally see in the populace.”

For example, one table will sell clocks and jewellery made out of old bike parts.

Vendors that want to get involved with this Saturday’s market have until 3pm Tuesday to get in touch with the Black Donkey Cafe to reserve a spot.
