Vees spoil Wornig’s effort

Stefan Wornig did everything but score for the Prince George Spruce Kings in a 4-0 loss to the Penticton Vees at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena on Saturday.

Despite being outshot 13-4 and playing the vast majority of the first period in their own end the Spruce Kings kept the game scoreless after 20 minutes.

A sloppy turnover in the Spruce Kings zone led a Ty Amonte wrist shot goal to put Penticton up 1-0 after 40 minutes.

The dam finally broke in the third as the Vees potted three more in the final frame courtesy of Amonte, Owen Sillinger and Riley Risling.

Spruce Kings Head Coach, Chad Van Diemen says they were unable to penetrate anything offensively.

“They did a good job of taking time and space away and eventually wore us down as they game went on. We have to learn a lot about this game and move forward.”

“We’ve got a quick turnaround, we need to get a lot of rest as we play another good team in Wenatchee so it’s a busy week with another good team coming in, we have a lot of work to do between now and Wednesday night.”

Penticton was 0 for 6 on the power-play while the Spruce Kings were 0 for 2.

Vees outshot Prince George 50-21.

The Spruce Kings welcome the Wenatchee Wild on Wednesday with puck drop slated for 7PM from the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.
