Proposed aquatic facility upgrades and international student event; Council preview

Council meets tonight (MON) for another regular meeting.

The The Prince George Aquatic Needs Assessment Report suggests the city upgrades its aquatic facilities. A 542-page document suggests demolishing and replacing the Four Seasons pool and adding a new tank to the Aquatic Centre. Combined, these could cost about $62 million.

Another report from the National Water & Wastewater Benchmarking Initiative (NWWBI) evaluated the city’s water usage. There were a 13 BC communities ranked, and Prince George had some fo the best drinking water prices and saw a 600% reduction in operating accidents between 2010 and 2014. However, the document shows that the city can improve its maintenance services and could lower consumption rates.

Council will also see a presentation about an annual event welcoming international students to the city. In 2013-14, UNBC had over 460 international students from 43 countries, which made up more than 11% of the student population.

Tonight’s meeting begins at 6 PM in the Council Chambers.
