The family of lifelong Prince George resident Norm Sorrell presented a cheque for $15,068 to PG’s Jumpstart charity today.
Norm passed away after a battle with cancer last year, and in August a golf tournament in his honour raised the funds.
His daughter Jessica, says the tournament was completely sold out, and despite heavy rain fully attended.
“So it was really a community effort to make this successful, he was definitely very loved. He would be very happy thinking he’s famous right now.” she said with a laugh
Jumpstart funds projects involving youth and sport such as ‘Little Mudder’ at Otway last summer and the annual ‘Canadian Tire Cup’ at Harwin Elementary. It also identifies supports financially challenged families to allow their kids to participate in sport.
Jessica Sorrell says Norm was always passionate about kids and sport. “So we wanted the money to go, to not a corporation but to actual children. So to know that 100% of the funds, went to the kids – after talking with jumpstart we learned that was how it was going to go, so we chose jumpstart.”
