Spruce Kings derail Express

It might not have been the finest goaltending display for the Prince George Spruce Kings but it was good enough as they beat the Coquitlam Express 6-4 on Saturday.

Tyler Anderson opened the scoring for Prince George 2:27 taking a Cavin Tilsey feed and slipping it past Coquitlam goaltender Reid Cooper.

The Express potted two unanswered goals to end the frame from Jake Brien and Sam Kozlowski.

In the second, the Express extended their lead to a pair thanks to Alex Ambrosio’s 5th of the season.

That ended the evening of Spruce Kings net minder Tavin Grant who allowed 3 goals on 9 shots.

Travis Schneider cut the deficit in half at 16:42 of the second trailing 3-2 after 40 minutes.

Prince George finally broke the game open with a 4 goal outburst in the third led by a pair from Jamie Huber, Parker Colley and Ben Poisson.

Coquitlam was outshot 113-46 during the double header.

Prince George improves to 8-8-0-3 and are 4 points ahead of the Express for 3rd place in the Mainland Division and are only 5 back of the Chilliwack Chiefs for 2nd.

Spruce Kings begin a 5 game road trip next Friday in Trail against the Smoke Eaters.
