Prince George-Cariboo jobless rate holds steady, BC continues to lead Canada in job growth

The unemployment rate in Prince George which includes the Cariboo economic region for October has been unveiled by Stats Canada.

Labour Division Analyst, Andrew Fields says it’s pretty much held steady the past year. “The unemployment rate was 7.1% and that is the same as it was last October so no change there. However, there was a small decline in the number of employed people of about 2,000.”

The job outlook resembled a roller coaster according to Fields. “There were changes across several industries. Agriculture and Natural Resources had large employment increases year-over-year while there were declines in Accommodation and Food Services as well as Manufacturing.”

Over 79,000 people held a job in the region last month.

The BC jobless rate remains the lowest in Canada at 6.2% and is also the fast growing province for job creation thanks to a spike of 2.4% in the past year

Canada’s unemployment rate sits at 7.0%.
