UPDATE: Prince George sets new temperature record

The summer-like weather in Prince George officially reached record-breaking status on Tuesday.

At 1PM, the temperature reached 18 degrees smashing the old mark 16.7 set back in 1930.

Greg Pearce with Environment Canada says temperatures have hit double digits during the first week of November and believes it should last a little longer. “We will continue with these mild temperatures until the end of the week, we will have to look at each day to see if any records will be broken as we could get close by week’s end with Friday reaching a high of 14.”

The recent warm spell has also smashed a yearly occurrence for this time of year. “There is usually just 1 day in November where we exceed 10 degrees for a high but this month we have had about 7 days in a row where we have exceeded that mark so it’s been quite the warm spell.”

A strong ridge of high pressure from the prairies has brought up mild air from the south which has reached the southern and central regions of BC.
