Prince George records 4 homicides in 2015

The amount of murders in Prince George went on an upward trend in 2015.

Stats Canada Homicide Survey Manager, Leah Mulligan says the city rate blew the provincial figures out of the water.

“Prince George recorded 4 homicides in 2015 compared to just 1 in the previous year. The homicide rate in Prince George is also four times higher than last year and overall, it is two times higher than that for British Columbia.”

In BC, 95 homicides were recorded last year, a spike of 6% from 2014.

Ontario accounted for the most homicides in Canada with 174.

Among the provinces, Saskatchewan recorded the highest homicide rate at 3.79 per 100,000 people.

The national numbers show a reported 604 murders, which is a 15% hike from the previous year.
