CounterAttack road checks have returned just in time for the holiday season.
Impaired driving remains the leading cause of fatal car crashes claiming 66 lives every year in BC.
ICBC Spokesperson, Sam Corea says even a fraction of that in our region is still too high. “In terms of the regional basis in North Central BC on average 19 people are killed in impaired driving related crashes every year.”
Corea also states a lengthy block of time during the evening and early morning hours is when most of these incidents take place.
“40% of all the impaired driving crashes take place between 9 PM and 3 AM so those late night celebrations can also lead to the period where we see more of these types of crashes on the road.”
The issue of impaired driving in BC reached a high-point in the 1970’s when over 300 would die each year.
