Balmy above zero temperatures expecting to stretch until Saturday

Temperatures in Prince George have been 8 to 9 degrees above normal and will remain that way for a while.

To make things even more exciting, the above zero weather will also stick around until Saturday.

Matt MacDonald with Environment Canada says even the daily rain totals have gone through the roof.

“The normal total rainfall for the month of January is 8 millimetres so it kind of puts it into perspective when the city got more in one day [12mm on Monday] than you do in the entire month, but it’s not quite record breaking.”

The daily record for amount of rain in January is 17 mm set in 2011.

The balmy conditions are also smashing normal monthly highs. “Normals for this time of year [are] around minus 4 degrees and we’ve been seeing temperatures of plus 4 or higher so we have seen a really mild stretch,” says MacDonald.

Wednesday is expected to a high of plus 6 degrees followed by a high of plus 3 for Thursday.
