Murry Krause leaving Central Interior Native Health Society

After 22 years with the Central Interior Native Health Society, providing health and social care to in-need aboriginal people, Murry Krause is moving on.

There are a few reasons the Society’s current executive director is leaving. As the current Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) President, his provincial roll cuts into his local responsibilities.

“This position deserves a full-time director so I won’t try to be all things to all people.”

He’s also taking into account both his health and the future of the Native Health Society.

“I’m now 67 years old and watching people around me either get sick or something happens and the agency has to rush to find a replacement. I don’t want that to happen to this agency because it’s just too important.”

The six-time and current city councillor says there is no ill will between him and the Society and promises to remain an advocate for it down the line. He will stay on as Executive Director until a replacement is found, even if that takes months.

As for what’s next, he’s going to wait and see.

“I will certainly complete [the UBCM President] appointment until I’m done that in September, and then I’ll keep my options open.”
