China Nose fire update

120 homes are on evacuation order due to a fire out at China Nose. An evacuation alert has been put in place for 574 homes. Chair Bill Miller says there are people who are refusing to leave.

“But for the most part livestock has been evacuated,” says Miller, “and things have gone fairly well, and the people that need to get out that need to move quickly are out.

Miller says the fire is around 4,000 hectares in size. BC Hydro says the fire is not affecting power stations and no outages are scheduled. Highway 16 near Decker Lake is still closed.
