Gemma Hansen of Prince George is competing at the Canadian Sprint Canoe Kayak Championships in Regina. On opening day, the 16-year-old D.P. Todd student did not advance to the final in one race (U16 Women C1 200m) and did not finish another (U17 Women C1 6000m). It’s the first time at Nationals for Hansen, who is in her 5th season of paddling. She is entered in two more races (U16 Women C1 1000m and U17 Women C1 500m). Hansen has been with Team BC for the last three seasons.

–The Queensway Auto World Red Sox beat the Inland Control and Services Tigers 3-2 in the opener of the Prince George Senior Baseball League best of five final. Game two will be played tonight at 6:30 at Citizen Field. Remaining games are schedule for Friday and, if necessary, Tuesday and Wednesday.

–The UNBC men’s soccer team begins a string of five exhibition games in Alberta when they visit the MacEwan University Griffins today in Edmonton. The UNBC women’s soccer team hosts MacEwan in pre-season games Saturday at noon and Sunday at 10am.

–The Prince George Cougars training camp will begin Friday afternoon at CN Centre. The White-
Black intra-squad game will conclude the four day camp Monday at 7pm.
