One person is dead following a two-vehicle collision in Valemount. Highway 5 is currently closed and will stay closed for several hours.
RCMP say a pickup truck was trying to pass a semi on the 9500 block of Highway 5 at about 6:30 this morning when it collided head-on with a southbound sedan. Both vehicles ended up in the ditch.
The driver of the sedan did not survive but the driver of the truck and a passenger in that vehicle sustained non-life threatening injuries.
There is a diversion available via Blackman Road to let traffic through but drivers in the area can expect delays.
