Quesnel police looking for suspects posing as them

Quesnel RCMP are investigating a report of two men who are trying to take advantage of the wildfire situation by impersonating police officers.

Sergeant Chris Riddle says they were attending a rural residence off the Barkerville Highway.

“These men were dressed in police type clothing and were wearing high viability vests. The men did not provide identification and left the area in what is described as a black SUV type vehicle. The occupants of this residence found this disturbing and alerted the authorities.”

Riddle says Quesnel RCMP are only attending homes in the fire evacuation zone adding that they will be dressed in full uniform and have police identification.

He says they will also have the official evacuation order to provide to evacuated residents.

Police also remind the public to be vigilant and to make sure they call the police at 250-992-9211 about anyone posing as a police officer or other official.
