BREAKING: Progress on fire that led to the evacuation of 100 Mile House

Some good news on the Gustafson wildfire front near 100 Mile House.

Heather Rice, the Fire Information Officer in charge of the South Cariboo, says they have made progress.

“They have established very good guard lines pretty much all around the southeast and west parts of the fire and those guard lines are holding and maintained. I can tell you that we have been seeing some success now and we are estimating our containment of the Gustafson fire at 15 percent.”

Rice says there is always a hint of caution however.

“We always have to keep an eye on the winds and if we have a sudden weather change and a sudden increase in winds that containment can be lost but we’re hoping we can continue building on those containment efforts.”

Rice says the fire is still estimated at around 5,000 in size so there hasn’t been any substantial growth in the last day and a half, two days.
