Police nab suspects with stolen items from evacuated homes

A 27-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman in Williams Lake are facing possible charges related to break and enter and possession of stolen property.

BC RCMP Staff Sgt. Annie Linteau says the two individuals who are both prolific offenders were taken into police custody on Tuesday during a routine traffic stop.

She says it was when police searched their vehicle that a television which is believed to have been taken during a break and enter of an evacuated home in the Wildwood area on Saturday, July 8 was discovered.

“Based on that vehicle stop a search warrant was executed yesterday (Wednesday) on 10th Avenue North as a well as a second residence on 11th Avenue North. Investigators discovered several items believed to have been taken from 3 other locally evacuated residences.”

Linteau says police are continuing their efforts to patrol evacuated zones on a 24-hour basis. She encourages anyone who notices any suspicious activity or persons in any neighbourhood to contact police.
