Got a flight out of Quesnel? Give yourself lots of time

People catching a commercial flight out of Quesnel these days had better show up early.

“It is now a secured fire fighting base of operations,” says Mayor Bob Simpson.

“There is a barricade, there is security there and identification and individuals license plates will be recorded so people catching a commercial flight should give themselves more time than they normally would to get through the security at the airport facility itself.”

Simpson says it is a very large base that will likely be there through September and possibly in October.

He says the intent is for it to deal with all fires east of Nazko.

Simpson says a smaller air base will be set up in Nazko that will be addressing fires to the west of that community.
