4H ecstatic, getting grounds ready for BCNE

The BC Northern Exhibition (BCNE) is moving forward this year after its board gave the green light Tuesday night.

This means kids involved with the 4H program will be able to showcase the animals they’ve been raising at the annual event.

4H Central Interior President Carlene Kerr says there’s a lot of work ahead of them though prior to the 105th Fall Fair.

“We’ve got animals that still need to go to some homes because there’s some chicken and goats that don’t have homes to go back to. We got to clean barns, sterilize them, and move animals and hay, but we’ll get it all done.”

She adds everyone will be pitching in between now and the BCNE to get the exhibition grounds ready.

“We’ve got a lot of 4H members down there helping with animals that are there right now. Every 4H member, parent, and volunteer will be down there cleaning and scrubbing and painting and getting it done, so we’re really excited.”

The 4H has also set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for a new scale, which Kerr hopes they’ll be able to obtain in time for the BCNE.

The event runs from August 17th to 20th, with the animal auction taking place on the 19th.
