CANADA 150: New murals display local culture, spirit

Prince George can now marvel at its National pride.

A mural and mosaic dedicated to Canada 150 celebrations have been unveiled at the CN and Kin Centres, made up of thousands of tiny tiles painted by local residents and artists.

Two Rivers Gallery took charges of the project, along with the Prince George Potters Guild, and Managing Director Carolyn Holmes says it’s part of a much larger canvas.

“It’s not just special having this little mural here, but to know that we’re part of a larger national mural. So, when you go on canada150mosaic.com, you can check out the whole train, which is boxcars from over 100 communities.”

When placed together, the nearly 1,400-tile mural in Section ‘G’ of the CN Centre concourse shows different aspects of the City, such as multiculturalism, artwork, and sports.

“Each ‘boxcar’ has something that’s iconic to that specific community, so it’s really nice to be part of Canada 150 this way and part of this bigger project as well.”

The mosaic on the high wall of the Kin Centre’s Atrium models a relaxed, laid-back Mr. PG next to a dark blue moose.

Mayor Lyn Hall and Cariboo-Prince George MP Todd Doherty were in attendance for the reveal.
