UNBC professor to Spoil Goats Milk In Upcoming Presentation

A disease caused from ingesting unpasteurized goats milk will be the topic a UNBC professor will be focusing on in an upcoming presentation.

Undulant fever, better known as brucellosis, is a bacteria discovered in Malta located in the Mediterranean, back in 1887.

Dr. Lianne Tripp | UNBC

Dr. Lianne Tripp says although this disease has been eliminated in Canada, its a good opportunity to learn from it.

“We can learn a lot from diseases in the past and how they can play out today. There’s always potential for historical diseases to re-emerge, especially with changes in climate. We’re seeing this happen all the time.”

Tripp says syphilis and tuberculosis are diseases we consider a thing of the past, but that’s not always the case.

“If there’s a possibility of animals transported, lets say from another country to Canada, there may be one animal that’s infected. That’s all it really takes for this disease to take hold.”

Dr. Lianne Tripp’s talk ‘The Scape Goat’ will be held on November 21st at Art Space above Books & Company in downtown Prince George starting at 7 p.m.
