High-tech machine shortens lab stain process

Laboratory staff at G.R Baker Memorial Hospital in Quesnel have secured some state of the art equipment recently.

A generous 10 thousand dollar donation from Mr. and Mrs. Bhatti sees the lab with a new gram stain analyzer.

Laboratory technologist Bridget Nowakowski says the machine takes some of the mistakes out of gram staining:

“So it ends up being a very consistent process, because all the timing is going to be consistent, the amount of stain that goes on will be consistent, so it eliminates duplication because sometimes the manual system you’d have to re-do.”

The machine assists with bacterial organism tests and saves the lab staff time, which in turn increases the output of patient care.
