Hall reacts to the passing of well-known local physician

He was a man who led the charge.

That’s how Prince George Mayor Lyn Hall described well-known physician Dr. Bert Kelly who passed away on Tuesday night in Kelowna following a battle with cancer.

His passing was made public via the Facebook page of fellow City Councillor Susan Scott.

Hall says his passing will leave a sizeable hole in our community.

“Dr. Kelly will be missed and not just in the medical community here in Prince George but from an overall community perspective he was a true leader and we are really going to miss him.”

Kelly was responsible for spearheading the Northern Medical Program at UNBC as well as several other programs at CNC and are both where they are today because of him.

“It was either Bert that would lead the charge or he was quick to say ‘look I’ll help out wherever I can and I will do whatever you’d like me to do and that’s what he was all about,” added Hall.

Hall adds one thing will always come to mind when remembering the long-time doctor.

“The annual Dr Bob Ewert Memorial Lecture is a lecture and dinner and at the end of that event Dr. Kelly would give the Kelly report and it was really an update on the medical care in Prince George and Northern BC.”

The local politician says it was Dr. Kelly’s mission was to make health care in the north the best it could be and improved access to medical education.
