Volunteers scarce for Salvation Army Kettle Campaign

It’s heading into the final stretch for The Salvation Army‘s Christmas Kettle Campaign and there are some concerning trends.

The total dollar amount raised as of December 9th is $120,681.85, which is $9,000 off last year’s total for the same time.

This number is also $130,000 off the target for the campaign, or $160,000 off when including the “Tree of Lights” target.

“It is a little concerning, we like to do the best that we can so the more the better,” explains Business Manager Bill Glasgow.

“But Prince George always seems to rally at the last minute and we’ve seen some really strong days in past years; so I can, with some confidence, say we’ll do the same this year.”

Glasgow says this isn’t even the most worrisome number.

“We have 189 hours to fill for next week, with 12 hours at one location being 144 hours, so we are almost one full location short,” Glasgow says.

“But, again, we usually have volunteers call up at the last minute and say they have an extra hour or so, so I am confident that will get filled too.”

He says the organization is looking to the reserves in an effort to fill hours.

Calls have been made to CNC, Volunteer PG, and cold calls to community members in an effort to bridge the gap.

The Kettle Campaign is on December 23rd.
