Two Prince George residents are developing an app to help people find and support local businesses.
The app, called The Local Shift, has been up and running for a while and is a way for people to search for anything local, such as food growers, garage sales and artisans.
They are now looking to incorporate a software called Blockchain, a program closely related to Bitcoin, to help create a rewards program.
“We won’t be using an actual electronic currency” says Lead Cheryll Turcotte “so it won’t be a cryptocurrency as in Bitcoin or Ethereum or anything like that, it’ll actually be using the token portion of Blockchain and what that will allow us to do is to keep a steady rate for the actual currency.”
She says the introduction of the rewards program will help in providing analytical data on how the local economy is performing.
Right now the app is available for Prince George and Turcotte is hoping other regions will want to participate.
An event will be held on January 22nd to give a manual demonstration on what the Blockchain will do for local businesses.
