Spruce Kings extinguish Express with shutout win

Prince George scored two goals in the final four minutes of regulation to defeat the Coquitlam Express 3-0 Saturday night.

Goaltender Bradley Cooper, who grew up playng across the Trans-Canada Highway from the Poirier Sports and Leisure Centre with the Burnaby Winter Club, posted a perfect 29-save performance for his second career BCHL shutout and fifth win in a Spruce Kings uniform.

Ben Poisson and Ethan de Jong each recorded two points in the contest (1G, 1A); Ben Brar was the other goal-scorer, which came 16 seconds into the middle period.

With the win, the Spruce Kings’ record improves to 24-15-4-4 and have leaped alone into the top spot of the BCHL’s Mainland Division.

Prince George wraps up its three-game, three-day road trip tomorrow afternoon (Sunday), 2PM in Chilliwack against the 2018 RBC Cup-host Chiefs.
