School District 57’s first meeting of the new year takes place this evening.
Several regulatory reviews are on the docket among the Board of Trustees, including SD57’s Policy 4117 regarding Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity.
The revised update up for final approval revolves around the language, as to include more identities and their terminology to the policy.
BC’s Ministry of Education introduced the mandate at the end of 2016 to add explicit protection for LGBT students.
Other policies up for revision include student transportation and financial health; all will be presented by SD57 Vice-Chair Trish Perrin.
Trustee Sharel Warrington will bring forward a drafted annual budget set to be amended for the 2017-18 fiscal year and scheduled to be submitted by June 30th.
Board Chair Tim Bennett will also introduce a presentation by District Principal of Information Chris Molcak and District Career Programs Coordinator Bruce Northrup on the current career programs, specifically to technology and the trades.
Tonight’s meeting is scheduled for 7PM at the SD57 Building on Ferry Avenue.
