Province still neutral to Site-C, while assessing other options

BC’s Environment Minister says the province isn’t biased towards the Site-C dam as a final source for energy from the North East, despite the project scoring environmental approval from the feds and province.

Bill Bennett says his ministry and the province are still neutral over the project and they are looking over other resource options.

He says there is an opportunity to distribute development around the province with a series of independent power projects, instead of focusing development in one place, such as the Peace River.

“Although, the caveat to that is that the technology that is coming down in price is wind and the best wind resources are, wouldn’t you know it, in the North East,” Bennett says.

Bennett says natural gas extraction within BC is still on the table, as well.

But if the dam is built, Bennett says it would produce around 8% of the energy needed in the province.
