For the second straight night, the Prince George Cougars had no answers for Jermaine Loewen.
On Friday, the 19-year-old Loewen snapped a 2-2 tie on the power play with just 40 seconds left in the third period in a 3-2 victory.
On Saturday, the six-four, 221 pound power forward opened the scoring in the first, closed the scoring with an empty netter in the third, and set up the other two in leading the Kamloops Blazers to a 4-2 win over the Cougars.
“He’s a big force, he’s a big load,” stated Cougars assistant coach Shawn Chambers on the 94.3 the Goat post-game show.
Orrin Centazzo notched the winner with just 3:13 left.
The Blazers scored three unanswered goals in the third period, to win for the first time this season when trailing after 40 minutes (1-22-0-2).
“They out-competed us in that third period. There is no other way to say it. It’s hard as coach’s to sit there and watch and go they are working harder than we did,” said Chambers
Kamloops has won all four meetings at CN Centre and leads the overall season series 5-2.
Jackson Leppard on a power play, and Kjell Kjemhus, tallied second period goals for the Cougars before 2,645 fans at CN Centre.
The (19-29-4-4) Cougars have dropped 10 of their last 12.
They will host the (17-26-10-3) Red Deer Rebels Monday afternoon at 2 before playing four straight on the road, including Saturday in Kamloops.
The Rebels are 7-1-2 in their last 10 and they trail Kootenay by four points for a playoff spot with 26 games remaining.
