ICYMI: Coldest Night of the Year tonight

It’s the second Coldest Night of the Year in Prince George.

The walk raises money for homeless people in the community and Event Director Elda Egan says they are already preparing the route.

“We walked the route on Sunday and it was just a tad slippery, of course we’ve gotten a bit more snow since then,” she says.

“[My husand] has talked to the city and I suspect they’ll be doing a little bit of extra sanding on the sidewalk of the route that goes down Victoria St.”

So far, $24,658 has been raised of the $40,000 goal.

Egan explains why anyone on the fence about participating should buckle down for the chilly stroll.

“Anybody who was there last year would’ve seen this amazing, positive energy. It was a fun family event but the biggest thing was we are raising money for a really good cause,” she explains.

“Anytime you’re able to raise money for a good cause and feel good about doing it at the same time, it’s just a great event to do.”

Last year, 159 people participated.

The event takes place Saturday, February 24th, with the opening ceremonies at St. Giles Presbyterian Church at 5PM.
