Three new courses within School District 57 (SD57) are being considered at tonight’s regular public board meeting.
Athletic Coaching for Grade 12s, Outdoor Education for Grade 10s, and an RCMP Youth Academy for Grades 11 and 12 are all being presented by local instructors.
Teachers are hoping these classes will be approved as ‘board authorized’ courses in order for students to count them towards graduation.
Athletic Coaching is up for consideration at Kelly Road and DP Todd Secondary schools, while RCMP Academy would be available to all high schools.
SD57 will also overview possible salary increases for the 2018-19 calendar year.
If approved, those sworn in as Board Chair, Vice-Chair, and Trustees in November will see a near 10% increase to their paycheque.
This is largely due to the federal government’s newly implemented Income Tax Act taking effect on January 1st, 2019, in which all expenses would be counted as taxable.
Other topics up for discussion this evening include catchment restrictions for a dozen schools, a capacity review by Superintendent Marilyn Marquis-Forester, and facility upgrades to better preserve power and energy resources.
Trustees will convene at the District Building on the corner of Ferry Avenue and Highway 16, starting at 7PM.
