Poisson is the BCHL’s most gentlemanly player

Prince George Spruce Kings forward Ben Poisson has been named the Most Sportsmanlike player in the BCHL.

The 18-year-old had just two penalty minutes in 53 games to go along with 51 points (22G, 29A).

He is not available for the playoffs due to a season-ending injury (ruptured spleen).

Three other Spruce Kings were finalists for an individual award but did not win.

They are Ethan De Jong (MVP), Evan DeBrouwer (Top Goalie), and Adam Maglio (Coach of the Year).

Voting was done by the league’s head coaches.

2017-18 WINNERS:

  • Vern Dye Memorial Trophy (MVP) = Jasper Weatherby, Wenatchee Wild
  • Bruce Allison Memorial Trophy (Rookie of the Year) = Alex Newhook, Victoria Grizzlies
  • Top Defenceman Trophy = Cooper Zech, Wenatchee Wild
  • Top Goaltender Award = Ty Taylor, Vernon Vipers
  • Bob Fenton Trophy (Most Sportsmanlike) = Ben Poisson, Prince George Spruce Kings
  • Joe Tennant Memorial Trophy (Coach of the Year) = Bliss Littler, Wenatchee Wild
