It’s the third major fire in Prince George in under a week.
At about 4:47pm on Saturday, March 31st, Prince George Fire Rescue crews responded to a possible chimney fire on the 1700 block of 11th Avenue after The lone tenant came home to find smoke in the home, went to a neighbour’s, and called 911.
“First arriving crews found smoke coming from all parts of the second level, through the attic and eavestroughs at that time,” says Assistant Chief John Law.
“It was upgraded and confirmed that we did have a working structure fire at this location.”
Crews began the battle inside but switched to an exterior attack due to highly elevated temperatures in the building.
Being an older structure with a tin roof, the tin roofs are meant to shed water and with no breach of that the fire was contained and held to the attic space and the voids in there,” Law explains.
“Being an older house with the shiplap and the way it’s been constructed, it’s been a tough fire to fight.”
No injuries were reported and the potential cost of damages is unknown at this time.
The investigation is ongoing.
