It was a successful first two games of the BCHL‘s Coastal Conference Championship series for the Prince George Spruce Kings.
A pair of wins at home Friday and Saturday puts them up 2-0 in their best-of-seven series against the Powell River Kings.
“We wanted to take advantage [being at home], but we also wanted to keep home ice through the playoffs,” says Spruce Kings Head Coach Adam Maglio.
“We needed to win both at home to do that and now we go on the road and we certainly are looking to get the next one too.”
Games three and four will be played in Powell River on Monday and Tuesday. It’s a long trek for PG, however, Maglio is not concerned about fatigue being a factor away from home.
“We’ve been good on the road with these long trips throughout the year, we’ve been battle tested with them,” he explains.
“Going into Powell River earlier this year, I thought we played well.”
So how do they continue to play well away from home?
“We need to get off to a good start. I think that’s the key, and stay patient within our game.”
Games five and seven will be played at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena, if needed, on April 5th and 9th, respectively, with Powell River hosting game six April 7th, if needed.
