Air index improves for Prince George despite dust advisory

The dust advisory issued for Prince George on Tuesday remains in effect today, but the air quality isn’t getting any worse.

BC Ministry of Environment meteorologists are reporting a 10% decrease on the air index for the Northern capital, still 17 clicks above the normal level of 50 micrograms-per-cubic-metre.

High concentrations of dust particles are found along busy roads and in City industrial parks, and the Ministry adds a lack of precipitation continues to be a major factor for this advisory.

Northern Health is reminding residents with chronic conditions once again to avoid outdoor strenuous activity until the dust settles.

This is of main concern for infants, seniors, those with diabetes, and with lung or heart disease.

The City’s Clean Air bylaw also bans all opening burning until the advisory is lifted, which includes recreational fires.

Quesnel is also under a dust advisory, a warning for commuters heading south on Highway 97 to work to visit the community.
