Downtown Prince George won three “Best in the West Awards” at the annual Business Improvement Areas of British Columbia + IDA Pacific Northwest Regional Conference .
Downtown PG submitted the “Open for Business” project, which is a collaboration between the City of Prince George, Tourism Prince George and Northern Development Initiative Trust, highlighting shared resources and cooperation that went into supporting projects like the façade improvement grant, event hosting, Love Downtown PG and downtown revitalization efforts.
This project was awarded the award of excellence for Programming & Partnership as well as the award of merit for Economic and Business Development. Winterfest was also recognized with an award of excellence for Special Events.
“This awards program allows us to feature the great things that we are doing in our own community, but can also be replicated in other communities. So, this is an opportunity to share and improve as a province,” says Colleen Van Mook, executive director of Downtown PG.
“We really illustrated how much we work with our partners in our city and I think that was definitely noticed. The other thing is [we] really tried to articulate what you set out to achieve and if in fact you achieve it,” added Van Mook.
Out of the four submissions they sent in they won three.
The last time the organization won a similar award was 12 years ago.
