School District 57 (SD57) trustees are heading east along Highway 16 this evening.
As part of its mandate of reaching to all catchments within the district, the annual out-of-town public board meeting will take place at Valemount Secondary School.
Last year’s special meeting was held in Mackenzie.
In addition to hearing concerns and comments from residents from the Village, there are a number of items on the agenda centred around Prince George schools.
New business includes a new elective course at PG Secondary School exploring Canada’s national sport.
PGSS Instructor Ken Barwise will be introducing, and making the case for, a class dedicated to Lacrosse, teaching the historic, social, and fitness aspects of the game for Grade 10 students.
If approved, it will become a board authorized course with four credits to go towards graduation.
SD57 will also discuss catchment and capacity concerns for Edgewood Elementary, hoping to come to a solution for student enrolment by the 2019-20 calendar year.
This has been topic for quite some time since the re-opening of Edgewood in September, and this will also be brought to light for all French Immersion programs.
Trustees will also look to approve a letter to send to BC’s Education Minister Rob Fleming in regards of properly assigning Trustee Electoral Areas for Mackenzie, McBride, and Valemount.
The decision was made by Fleming last month to offer positions in these areas so all areas will be represented.
Everyone is still welcome to join trustees at tonight’s meeting, which will be available by video conference at SD57’s Ferry Avenue building, beginning at 7PM.
