WATCH: BC awarding $16M in grants for Northern rural areas connect to internet

WATCH:

BC is handing out $16 million in internet grants to improve connectivity in Northern remote, & Indigenous areas.

July 1st marks the next round of project applications, with 70% of rural communities without broadband internet.

“In communities where they even get a few blocks of fibre optic down, they have seen a huge growth in the tech sector; attracting businesses, and attracting professionals to work in municipal government and in local industries.”

– Jinny Sims, Citizens’ Services Minister

However, government has no plans to bring WiFi hot-spots along the Highway of Tears.
