The B.C. government is providing funding to 51 schools to help upgrade playgrounds in districts across the province.
Glenview Elementary school received $90,000 for their playground, relieving pressure on parents who were trying to raise money for upgrades.
“In order to get a playground it is a big bill,” says SD57 Chairperson Tim Bennett.
“Today’s $90,000 will ensure that Glenview will get that playground and all children at Glenview, and up in the Hart, have that opportunity to play.”

The province is providing $5 million each year from their $2 billion in school capital funding, included in the 2018 budget.
Although this is good news, Bennett would like to see more money invested into school capital funding.
“The capital money is something we at the district have been very vocal about and that we need to see more money invested in schools district capital. The inclusion of more buildings announced to the budget is a good thing for communities, but our buildings are ageing and need additional maintenance and work.”
Bennett added the district has been fortunate to receive funding for certain projects, but there is still more that needs to be done to help facility service staff.
