Cancer survivors will rejoice in Prince George this weekend during the annual Relay for Life hosted by the Canadian Cancer Society.
The 24-hour event has raised the most money across the country the past few years and the 2018 edition has set a fundraising goal of $550,000.
The 800 participants anticipated for this weekend will be pleased with the location change from Masich Place Stadium to Exhibition Park.
“We’re really excited about this change because this venue gives us a lot more opportunities to grow the event. One of the big things we’re seeing is that we have designated survivor parking beside the survivor tent this year and suddenly it is a lot more accessible for people to come,” says Aimee Cassie, Relay for Life Coordinator.
The new venue will also get rid of the long-standing issue of parking at Masich.
“Suddenly, we’re a lot more accessible for people, we were having survivors park at PGSS and walk down to the event in previous years and this year, they can park near the survivor tent.”

More than 100 teams have registered so far with the event set for Saturday at 10AM and will wrap up the following morning.
A number of food vendors will also be on site, including Tim Hortons and Save-On-Foods.
The Prince George Relay has been the best in Canada the past four years, beating out Toronto’s Downsview Park area in 2017.
