Anti-Bike Theft Program returns to PG

The Prince George RCMP received 146 reports of stolen bikes involving 164 bicycles between January 1st and October 31st of last year.

To help keep those numbers down, officers and volunteers are bringing back the Anti-Bike Theft Program.

Events are taking place throughout summer where individuals can register photos, serial numbers, make and model on the 529 Garage App which will assist police if your bike gets stolen.

Since the App was introduced in 2016, numbers have been steadily decreasing.

“In the last year, the stats have gone down and we think it’s because of a large part of this program. The previous four-five years it was going up steadily. Bike theft has been taking off and unfortunately, it doesn’t get as much attention as serious crimes.”

From the files recorded last year, 45 owners didn’t know the make or model of their bike and at least 97 bikes weren’t locked.

The registration team will be at:
– McIntyre Crescent Safety Day, Saturday, June 16th 12:00 PM-2:00 PM

– Otway Recreational Area, Wednesday, June 20th 5:30 PM-8:30 PM

– CN Centre parking lot, Sunday, June 24th 9:00 AM-12:00 PM
